Manic Monday- Ssshhh A Dream Could Be Coming True

I am so afraid that if I say this out loud that my dream won't come true. This Manic Monday is tightly packed because this afternoon the Viking Kiddos will having their entrance interview for the Waldorf School of San Diego. 

So, this morning is jammed packed with Student Home Visits then I rush over to their Public School check them out and then drive over to the school for their interviews. 


My goal today is to 

BREATH!!

Manic Monday- No Water!!

The Viking Homestead has been on a little cyber vacation. We are back!
Our Humble Little Town has this outstanding Community Network blog and email. For the most part the emails consist of lost family pets or advertisements for a Small Business. The HOT ALERTS for accidents and weather have been valuable to all of us.

This Saturday, the community received this notice via our Network and also by phone.

BOIL WATER NOTICE & SINK HOLE!!!

**P--- DAM WEBSITE BOIL WATER ALERT**

“BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING
Failure to follow this advisory could result in stomach or intestinal illness.
Due to a water main break on A-- Blvd., the California Department of Public Health in conjunction with the San Diego County Health Department, and P--- Dam Municipal Water District are advising all residents east of H-------- Canyon Road (the A--- Way pumping zone) to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution.

DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one (1) minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

We will inform you when tests show that water is safe to drink and you no longer need to boil your water. We anticipate resolving the problem within 72 hours.

The amusing part of this broken water main is that this is the "NEW" part of the Sunrise Powerlink construction. This is not like the 101 year old water pipe that blew in San Diego last week. 

We have also received a phone call from our local school district stating that they will have school on Monday but have requested that we send our children to school with bottled water during the duration of the Boil Alert. 

I guess it could be worse.

Manic Monday Continues

Like it can't get any better today.  Today is what is called a "Red Flag Day." This means that the winds in the mountain areas are over 60 mph. The Power Company from Hades decided after the Harris Fires in 2007 that to prevent further fires they would shut down the power grid in the Pink Zones.
We were all highly recommended to Prep for this occasion.

The pink areas are the areas that the Power Company from Hades will effect by shutting down the power grid. Yes, the Viking Homestead is in the Pink Zone!!

Last Saturday a parent of mine asked me why I am a Prepper. This is one of the reasons why? On Saturday, ironically, the Power Company from Hades did shut down the power grid for several hours.

Manic Monday- Cyber Monday

My email in boxes are full of Cyber Monday ads from all over the place. 

Several years ago when one mentioned "Cyber Monday" images of flying cars, robots, and Marty McFly in the future come to mind. 

How far we have come.... or have we?

It is easy to fall in the pit falls of ordering items off line. I am not exempted from this either. 

Does this come at a cost to our society?

 This is a commentary on the San Diego mayoral race and Senatorial races. They are not just flinging mud but also their poo.

Manic Monday-WTF! SDG&E

On Friday Viking Dad and I came home to find a huge hole and shocker. We were stunned to find that one of our huge shrubs, called a Butterfly Bush, had been cut down and the carefully cultivated mustard had been torn up. In its place were huge tire tracks and orange paint.
I was livid and I felt a huge hole. The Butterfly Bush had been in it's place for over 10 years. It hid the ugly telephone pole, balanced  the modern world with nature, gave shelter to multiple birds, small critters, and was home to many generations of butterflies. It was also a huge favorite for our bees. It also gave shelter to our two beehives.
I couldn't wait for Monday to call SDG&E!
SDG&E has been covering their corporate arses since the 2007 Fires, which were caused by poorly maintenance power lines. I feared the worse. Did they come and do " Weed Abatement" and we were going to be charged for this "clean up." The bees! They could have harmed the bees!

I called the main hotline. After a five minute wait I reached an operator who then forwarded me on to SDG&E's "Vegetation Maintenance" division. A What?!
Yup! "Vegetation Maintenance Division. It is their job to go through out the county to help out the crews clear vegetation around their power poles and power sources.

I was actually surprised how cooperative and nice the lady was on the other end. She apologized on how "vague" she was due to the lack information she had on my topic. I left a description of what happened and a call back number half expecting never to hear from anyone again.

About an hour and half later the "district supervisor" called me back. WOW!
The district supervisor explained that they were out by the property to find a service line and conduit that had malfunctioned and to prevent a fire they removed it from the area. She explained that if they had to cut a tree or brush down it was in order to get to the power pole or conduit to remove it.
Then I got another shocker! She actually apologized for cutting down the Butterfly Bush. They had cut it down in order to get to the conduit and remove it. At least this took the shocker and sting of losing the Butterfly Bush.

My strong dislike and barely toleration with the power company was slightly thawed today. I was really pleased how professional courteous the Vegetation Maintenance Division was today.

 Do I still want to go off the grid! You bet!
